FAQs and Rules

This is a limited support event. The Laona Rescue Squad will be out on the routes in the event of emergencies. In the event of an emergency, DIAL 911

Laona Rescue will be providing support until 5 PM. If you are not very confident of finishing before then, you should choose a shorter route.

FAQs

Q: If I get tuckered out, will someone come and get me?

No. Have a back-up plan. Self-sufficiency is the rule.

Q: How's the cell phone service?

Not great but improving.

Q: How do I navigate?

The routes will be marked with arrows. Maps, cue sheets, and GPX files are also available. Do not rely on any one form of navigation. Have a back-up plan. Carrying a compass and knowing how to use it is never a bad idea.

Q: Are there water stops?

Yes, water stop locations will be marked on your map and on the GPX files.

Q: What about food/snacks?

Plan to bring whatever you want to eat. The 111-mile route will pass by a convenience store at mile 49. Bring cash/card.

Q: Are there bears in the area?

Yes, black bears. Typically, they avoid humans. Loud noises tend to scare them away. Don't try to get close for a picture and avoid getting between a bear and her cubs.

Next, is self-sufficiency. Other than the convenience store on the 111-mile route, and the neutral support water stops provided, any other support from teammates, friends, and family (i.e., water bottle or nutrition hand-ups) violates the self-sufficient spirit of the event. If you're going to race, race fairly.

Safety of the participants is our primary concern. One of the great features of the Bear 100 routes is the lack of vehicle traffic. Much of the route may be impassible or potentially closed to vehicle traffic this time of year. Please stay off of the routes. This could be you:

The event will be chip timed. Any controversies regarding timing or placement will be decided by the event organizer and will be final.

There will be male, female, and non-binary categories.

You may change your route choice up to the day of the event. Just let us know at packet pick-up.

No refunds will be made and transfer of registration to others is not allowed.

Have Fun!
